Life on the farm definitely has it’s ups and downs, but I’ve got to say spring is one of my favorite times of the year. The flowers are blooming, wildlife is reemerging and everything is still green and full of life. The wildflowers are so magical where we live, it’s a fantastic time to have a drive out if you are nearby!
These are the cutest lizards! They love to hang out on the warm roads in spring and are found up and down Western Australia. When I lived in Port Hedland as a child we used to see them all the time, and when I was working in Mullewa the other day I had someone bring one in to show us! This one was found in the bush and is a beautiful bright orange
We each had a cuddle and put him back where we found him.
Any one who lives in a rural area (or drives on rural roads) knows how common roo’s are. We’ve had several take out sections of our car at different times, and see them feasting on the crops or coming to have a drink of water.
We also see the odd joey, they are very cute and we sometimes get a cuddle with one.
Emu’s look awfully cute and fluffy but they can do some awful damage to a car let me tell you-they are solid! We’ve had one run out of the scrub and into our trailer, completely bending the axle- it was a write off! Emu’s are really common around us, they are a real menace on the farm as they flatten and damage the crops. We once found an emu chick that had been separated from it’s family- it was very cute!
So, so many snakes. We are surrounded by scrub so it’s just a fact that we will have snakes, though we have invested in some snake repellents- we’ll see how that goes this summer- last summer we had about 10 baby snakes in our house eek.
